Naturally, this will have to remain very general, but perhaps it is something that can grow to include links to more specific guides and how-to's. WebI originally built the server for hosting my own Minecraft servers with my roommates, both vanilla and modded, but it's expanded beyond that. Samba for NAS, Plex is great too for movies/TV shows. Install normal Ubuntu (18.04 LTS is better for a server-type computer IMO) on your laptop and just start playing with it.

WebBuilding your own house? I've been reading a lot lately on being an owner-builder... basically doing the general contractor work for your own house. Apparently you can save ~25% on the total cost of your house by hiring sub-contractors and doing all the planning, ordering, permitting, etc (not the actual labor). WebAs an owner/occupant, your priorities are different. You can live in the house and fix things over years, if needed. But for that to work, you need the house to be secure, the roof not leak, and a working bathroom, at a minimum. I don't see much of this info on reddit, but certainly it is all available online, such as on YouTube.

Use CDX instead of OSB, use klin dried lumber (stops a lot of shrinkage,warping) and have good vapor barriers. A house like that could easily last 100+ years.
