There is almost an acoustic quality to the sound, probably because the pups are slightly microphonic. If I tap them it can be clearly heard through the amp. WebOct 18, 2024 · I have recently tried the GFS 'gold foil' pickups, P90's in a Strat, and the humbuckers in an old Ibanez Blazer. Both sets of pickups are ok but a bit underwhelming. The exception is the GFS GF Ferrite P90 bridge which I think is actually pretty good. The pickups I tried were the ferrite magnets. I may try the regular ALNICO P90's at some point.

The other main gold foil design favored by ry cooder is from a Japanese line of very short almost surface mounted single coils. Very cool as well....but other than looks, not much like the gfs pickups.
