Hot tanking is the traditional method of cleaning filthy cast iron engine blocks, heads, and other components. The hot tank is simply a large metal tank filled with a nasty, caustic hot water solution. The parts are immersed in the solution and allowed to soak for several hours, with the solution slowly circulating around them.
