WebMar 21, 2024 · As my SP8 spends most of its time plugged into my Surface Dock, I decided to enable "Smart Charging" in the Surface app. I wanted to preserve the life of the battery and this seemed to be a good way to do it. Today I needed to go out and wanted to make sure the battery was fully charged so "Paused" the Smart Charging. WebI believe smart charging only turns on after the battery reaches ~80%. The message in the OS is wrong and it looks like they are using the same text whether the current capacity is well-below or well-above 80%. WebEdit: I reread the Microsoft page on caring for your Surface battery and the wording implies that basically all Surface devices have the feature, but only select devices can pause it (temporarily).
